Dads’ Resource Center Community Guidelines

Welcome to the Dads’ Resource Center community.

Our social media exists to educate, support, and advocate for fathers and their children. Many of the fathers who engage with our social media are experiencing some of the most difficult times of their lives, including separation from their children, family court proceedings, domestic violence, financial hardship, and the loss of important relationships.

We welcome respectful participation from everyone. Fathers, mothers, grandparents, professionals, and community members all contribute valuable perspectives. Many women have become some of our strongest supporters, and we appreciate their willingness to help improve outcomes for children and families.

To keep our community productive and supportive, we ask everyone to observe these guidelines:

This is a fathers’ support community.

Our focus is fathers. That does not mean we believe fathers are always right or mothers are always wrong. We know that some fathers abuse, neglect, or abandon their children, or otherwise act in harmful ways. We do not excuse or defend that behavior.

Our work is directed toward fathers who are willing and able to be involved in their children’s lives but face significant obstacles in doing so.

There are many excellent organizations dedicated to supporting women and mothers. This is one of the few organizations dedicated specifically to fathers. We ask participants to respect that purpose.

Respectful disagreement is welcome.

People will have different experiences and opinions. Thoughtful discussion is encouraged. Personal attacks, insults, harassment, or comments intended to provoke conflict are not.

Avoid sweeping generalizations.

Statements such as “all men…” or “all women…” rarely move conversations forward. All family’s circumstances are different, and we encourage discussions that recognize that complexity.

Stay on the topic.

Comments that meaningfully contribute to the discussion are welcome. Comments that repeatedly redirect conversations away from fathers or seek to diminish the experiences being shared may be removed.

Lead with empathy.

Many people participating here are in crisis. Even when you disagree, respond with respect and compassion.

Moderation

We reserve the right to remove comments or restrict participation when discussions become abusive, intentionally disruptive, or inconsistent with the purpose of this community.

Our goal is not to silence differing viewpoints. Our goal is to maintain one of the few spaces where fathers can share their experiences, receive support, learn from one another, and work toward better outcomes for their children.
