Dad Pro Tip – National Library Lovers Month
February 27, 2020
They are free and everywhere, and you can help to stoke an interest in literacy in your kiddos by taking advantage of them. Here are seven reasons to rediscover your local library this February and celebrate National #LibraryLoversMonth:
#1 Children who read who are read to at least three times a week by a family member are almost twice as likely to score in the top 25% in reading compared to children who are read to less than 3 times a week.
#2 The number of books in a home correlates significantly with higher reading scores for children.
#3 You can look up almost anything on the internet, but only a librarian can give you an informed, honest (not ad or click-driven) recommendation to find you or your child’s next favorite book.
#4 Libraries are safe, secure and peaceful havens in a hectic world.
#5 Most all libraries have active educational programming for children during the day and for adults in the evenings.
#6 Get your child a library card, the free ticket to endless knowledge.
#7 Many libraries are eliminating late fees in order to expand access to those who cannot afford the fines.
